Well, as a few people very rightly pointed out in the notes, I didn’t describe Elagabalus using her appropriate gender identity, for which I apologize deeply. For all that I know her story, I still didn’t move, in my mind, past the historians’ characterizing her as male all the time, which, as history bears out, wasn’t really the case.
In any case, I do fucking love her story. It’s amazing, entertaining, and everything awesome that exists in classical studies.
